Li Wanwan/Chen Xiaoyuan/Yang Kai ACS Nano: Metal Sb and Bi-based nanomaterials for cancer imaging and treatment

Researcher Li Wanwan from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Yang Kai from Soochow University, and Professor Chen Xiaoyuan from National University of Singapore reviewed the applications of metallic Sb and Bi nanomaterials in the field of cancer imaging and treatment.

Key points of this article:

(1) Multifunctional nanomaterials can be used for cancer imaging and treatment at the same time, so it has also aroused great interest of researchers. Among them, antimony (Sb) and bismuth (Bi)-based nanoparticles are an important class of materials that can be used to enhance the effect of cancer treatment. Despite the rapid development of such materials, a large amount of previous work regards Sb and Bi-based nanoparticles as independent species, and lacks a thorough understanding of their relationship in the field of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Sb and Bi have similar chemical properties, and their derived nanoparticles also have multiple functions, which can be used for near-infrared laser-driven or X-ray-based cancer imaging and treatment.

(2) In the article, the author reviewed the research progress of Sb-based and Bi-based nanoparticles for cancer treatment in recent years, and emphasized the relationship between their chemical properties and multiple functions, and aimed to further promote the development of Sb-based nanoparticles. And Bis nanoparticles and expand its application in intelligent cancer diagnosis and treatment.
